Ingredients For Making Tteokbokki:

Korean Rice Cakes (tteok): These ingredients are the main ingredient for Tteokbokki dishes. Not only that, but Tteok is also included in various Korean dishes such as Dak Galbi (chicken galbi), Tteokguk (beef or chicken soup that is always present at Chuseok or Korean New Year celebrations), Tteok which is eaten as a cake made from sticky rice with honey or sugar as a sweetener.

Tteok is usually made from ground rice flour or glutinous rice flour and then steamed, boiled, fried, or sauteed. Sirutteok (시루떡) is a traditional tteok made by steaming in a siru (시루) or Korean pottery steamer.

Korean Fish Cakes (eomuk): This South Korean snack has a chewy texture and smells like sea fish. Eomuk is usually embedded in a skewer soaked in a clear, savory broth with a sprinkling of green onions. These ingredients are friends of Tteok, but can also be eaten in cold weather.

Anchovy Broth: We use it because it matches the taste of the eomuk which smells like sea fish. But you can also replace it with chicken broth, beef broth, or mushroom broth for vegans.

Gochujang (Korean Red Chili Pepper Paste): This red chili paste has always been the main condiment in Korean cuisine. You can find them in Asian supermarkets. But if you have trouble, you can make it yourself at home.

Just mix 1 kg of barley powder with 8 cups of glutinous rice flour, 10 cups of rice syrup, 4 cups of fermented soybean powder, 16 cups (about 1.6 kilograms) of red chili powder, 4 cups of kosher salt and water. You can save it first or use it directly.

Gochugaru (Korean Red Chili Pepper Flakes): This ingredient seems easy to find in supermarkets near your house. You can get rid of it if you don’t like it spicy.

Soy Sauce: Usually this one ingredient is used as a substitute for salt.

Sugar: For those of you who like it sweet, you can add more sugar.

Actually, how to make tteokbokki is not that difficult. The ingredients are also easy to get. Maybe it’s just the gochujang and gochugaru sauce that’s a bit of a drain on the bag. Well, no need to linger. Now let’s learn how to make delicious and fast home-style tteokbokki.
